Miracles in Moving
A week ago we moved two sister missionary companionships from a two bedroom apartment to two, one bedroom apartments all within the same apartment community in Petaluma. We had to do this move as we needed two parking spaces. Typically, there is only one parking space per apartment. Previously, the two bedroom apartment housed Elders so parking outside the complex and walking through a darkened neighborhood at night, although bad, was doable. Since then we switched to sister missionaries so we needed another parking spot for obvious safety reasons. Anyways, come move time we had 14 missionaries helping - two senior couples and 10 young missionaries.
As you can imagine we were quite visible to everyone. And one person in particular. A woman approached with her young son and asked if we were Mormon missionaries. She told us that she had investigated the church previously and wanted to join but her ex husband would not allow it. Now that she was divorced she wondered if she could take the lessons again and be baptized. Of course! She is now taking the lessons and has a baptismal date of March 1st. Miracles in moving!!
In one of the Petaluma sister apartments, we needed a kitchen table and chairs. We also secured a home in Santa Rosa where we needed to acquire a refrigerator. At the same time, the Harmer's (a senior couple) have completed their mission after serving two years in Lakeport (Ukiah Zone) and headed back to South Jordan, Utah on Saturday. In preparing for their departure we spoke with them to find out what mission items they have. They informed us that their home was furnished by the owners, but the mission supplied them a kitchen table and chairs as well as a refrigerator. Coincidence? We were prepared to purchase these items but the Lord provided. Once again, a miracle in moving and a reminder that the Lord is in the details of His work.
In Vacaville we have Elders on bikes who cover a large teaching area. They currently live on the extreme edge of their area which makes it difficult at times. The lease term for their apartment is coming due March 3rd and we received a notice if we would like to renew. At that same time, we were notified that a family in that ward have a prefab home on their property and wondered if we had a need for missionaries. This home is in the middle of the Elder's teaching area. We traveled to Vacaville to check it out and it is perfect. They told us the home would be ready by March 1st. Once again, proof that the Lord is in the details. Another miracle in moving!
We spent the rest of the week preparing for a new arriving senior missionary couple who arrives tomorrow (Monday), cleaning apartments we moved out of, and taking various items around to the missionaries. They are always so appreciative and we love to see them!
In other news, last Tuesday was National Chocolate Cake Day so to celebrate we went to Mod Pizza and bought a couple of their no name cakes. A great way to end the day.
