A visit from family
Last week our eldest daughter Cristine and her husband, Steve, came to visit. They arrived on Thursday the 12th and left the following Tuesday the 17th. For this reason we did not post a blog last week. While they were here we traveled north to the Avenue of the Giants to see the large Redwood trees, visited Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge, and went shopping for antiques. Tuesday morning before heading to the airport they helped us move a few items out of the APs apartment to prepare for a renovation which occurred later in the week.
We loved being with Cristine and Steve. Every day was busy but a joy to be with them. They are excited to purchase their first home together and renovate their own place. For Valentine's Day we had dinner at a restaurant in Sonoma Valley called Salt & Stone. The place is beautifully located among the vineyards and the food was marvelous.
The renovation of the APs apartment was tough. Their apartment (more like a townhome) is next door to us and is larger than most the apartments in the mission. We have had missionaries in that apartment for many years and their garage is used by us as housing storage. Their apartment was in need of a makeover really bad. We weren't planning to do the renovation for another month but the landlord called us and said she would like to replace the carpet with laminate flooring. The timing was actually good as the APs left for a week to travel around the mission. We removed almost all the furniture, painted the bedrooms and some of the living room, brought in new furniture, removed clutter, added new kitchenware, curtains, blinds, and rugs....a complete makeover (and we are not done). To get things done, we worked all day yesterday (go to bed at midnight) and solicited the help of other senior couples. When the APs returned today (Sunday) they were very appreciative. Our calling is the best - making missionaries happy and more effective in the Lord's work.
