More Moves
We feel blessed being so close to home that we can easily visit and then return to the "greatest job we have ever paid for" (as another office couple expressed to us). We traveled back to Santa Rosa on Tuesday and then spent Wednesday and Thursday in the office getting caught up on things. There is always much to do; organizing computer files (lots of old and unnecessary things in the system), catching up on paperwork, answering emails from property owners, answering texts from missionaries, etc.
On Wednesday at 10 pm we received a phone call from Elders serving in Fairfield (about an hour away). They informed us that somehow they got locked out of their apartment and didn't know what to do. We immediately told them to call the Senior Couple residing in that zone as they should have a key. They called and it all worked out. Thank goodness for senior couple missionaries!
On Friday we moved both the Elders and the Sisters in Dixon to new apartments. The new apartments are much nicer, newly renovated and in better locations, The mission has had missionaries in the old apartments for several years. Over those years the carpets, walls, bathrooms, everything, gets hammered. One of the things we are doing is taking inventory of places we have been in for some time, or in bad areas, or simply bad apartments, and moving our missionaries. Such was the case in Dixon. We left our place in Santa Rosa at 8:30 am and did not return until 11 pm. We also threw away quite a bit of the old housewares and furnishings and got them new things - a fresh start. It was quite the day. The missionaries are very happy in their new places which makes us happy.
One miracle occurred during the move. Toward the end of the day we had to move a very large oak desk. The desk was located in a bedroom and was so large that we had to remove the bedroom door. The desk was very heavy and the Elders struggled to get it to the front door. We tried removing the drawers but could not. The apartment was on the second floor so we had to get it down a flight of narrow stairs allowing only two Elders to handle it. The missionaries immediately said they need divine help and suggested a prayer be said. One of the Elders stepped forward and offered a prayer asking for the strength to move the desk without anyone getting hurt. After the prayer, two Elders picked up the desk and exclaimed, "It's light!!" They easily moved the desk down the stairs and then offered thanks to the Lord for helping them. We never get tired of witnessing these miracles!
