The Lord is in the Details!!

We completed our second week in the mission field and time is flying by.  We are busy from the moment we awake until our heads hit the pillow.  Each day brings a variety of different tasks, challenges, joy and miracles.  We are exhausted but it is the joyous type of exhaustion.  We love it!  The Lord is definitely in the details of His work.

A sacred moment happened that we feel prompted to share as told by Elder Cawley and witnessed by Sister Cawley:

A few days ago I accidentally stepped on my glasses. Crunched them good. The lenses were not broken but the frames were bent really bad. One arm was completely broken (would flop 180 degrees) and the arms were uneven so the glasses would slip off and sat crooked on my face.  I tried my best to fix them but no luck - still bent and the one arm so loose it appeared it would detach completely. So I called Cristine, our daughter, to have her send me a spare I had at the house. That spare had an old prescription setting - but it would do. I placed my very sad glasses on my nightstand as I went to bed that night.  In the morning, I picked up my glasses and went downstairs to do some work. Without thinking I put my glasses on. I suddenly realized that they sat square on my face and were not slipping off like before.  I took them off and examined them,  They were completely repaired.  The arms sat straightened together and did not flop.  They were as they were before I stepped on them.  Why the Lord decided that a small, trivial thing such as my broken glasses needed His attention I do not know. Both Sister Cawley (who was a witness to all of this) and I are amazed, delighted and humbled by this miracle. Maybe that was for us or maybe to help strengthen the faith of others. We don't know. What we do know is that only the Lord or His angels could have done this - there is no other explanation.  We can choose to dismiss this as a mystery of natural means or acknowledge that the hand of the Lord is in this work - He is in the details - and He takes care of His missionaries even in trivial matters.

Miracle Glasses

A wonderful reminder that the Lord is aware of us as individuals, loves each of us and is truly in the details of our lives.

Transfers are next week which brings the excitement level up several notches.  For the young missionaries it is a time of great anticipation with some hoping to stay where they are while others look forward to change; new companions; new areas.  We are curious and excited to see the transfer process in action.  The first step was taken last night with a mission wide zoom call where the Assistants to the President (APs) announced all the transfers.  The actual transfer logistics will take place next week.  Lots of change.

For the housing coordinators we have to act quickly to that change - whether we need to shut down an apartment or open a new one.  With this, our first transfer experience, we needed to do both.   The Lord is definitely involved in His work as we were able to find a new apartment very quickly.  We traveled to the area about 90 minutes away, met with the property manager, inspected the apartment and signed the lease.  The required furniture and housewares were ordered and everything should arrive (we hope) tomorrow so we can set up the apartment ready to receive missionaries on Tuesday.  All this accomplished in just 2 days.  The apartment we need to close is about an hour away.  It is a month to month lease so should be fairly simple.  The APs took out all the furniture today.  In a couple of weeks we will collect the rest of the housewares and clean the apartment.

The rest of our time is filled with calling property managers of items that need attention, cleaning and inspecting apartments, making minor repairs and taking missionaries to lunch.  Today we attended the Foothill Park ward council meeting.  The chapel was decorated very patriotically today.  Once home we worked on a new missionary orientation presentation.  There is never a dull moment.

When we do have free time it is very welcomed.  On Friday evening we played pickleball with the mission leaders at their home.  We had a very fun time and afterwards enjoyed ice cream and conversation.  On our P-Day we did some office work and cleaned mold in one apartment (very exciting) and spent a great deal of time working on our back patio getting it ready for plants and flowers.  When we arrived it was just dirt.  Once completed, we will provide some before and after pictures.  Last evening for our date night we went to see the latest Mission Impossible movie.
